U.S. Chamber highlights Sioux Falls' business-oriented approach in its "Enterprising Cities" Report
Sioux Falls is one of seven communities featured in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Enterprising Cities report. These seven cities use policies and practices that will help strengthen the free enterprise system.
The report was released today. Following are statements from the U.S. Chamber regarding Sioux Falls and its inclusion:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has transitioned from a small community to a regional economic power and consistently finds itself at the top of many national rankings for business and job growth, due in large part to a history of regional foresight and collaboration, according to a new report released today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The report, Enterprising Cities, was commissioned by the Foundation and prepared by Praxis Strategy Group.
“Enterprise-friendly leadership and policies at the city level can facilitate local economic growth by supporting entrepreneurs and mobilizing effective partnerships for improving the conditions for business and job growth,” said Al Martinez-Fonts, executive vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “We need more policies like those implemented by the City of Sioux Falls in partnership with the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and Sioux Falls Development Foundation to drive stronger growth, competition, and success among businesses across the country.”
The Enterprising Cities report highlights seven cities — Dayton, Ohio; Irving, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Antonio, Texas; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota — which in their own unique way, are examples of how enterprise-friendly strategies and partnerships can create an environment in which free enterprise creates jobs and prosperity.
Starting in 1987, Sioux Falls leaders from the public and private sectors have come together to implement a series of five-year economic development campaigns known as, “Forward Sioux Falls.” Forward Sioux Falls is a joint venture of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and Sioux Falls Development Foundation. The project is strategically designed to enable the city and region to work together to adapt and diversify behind a defined set of goals to build on past success and proactively shape the future. Each plan has set new goals for the community, and raised funds to invest in regional economic enhancement efforts, helping the economy grow and prosper. Now in its 25th year, Forward Sioux Falls exemplifies how vision, leadership, and collaboration can make a big impact on the economic vitality of a city and its surrounding region.
