Put on by the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the seminar has become the premier presentation for those wanting to understand the economic forces pushing South Dakota, to see the state’s economy in context with the national economy and to preview what might be ahead for the state.
The agenda features Dr. Ralph Brown, Economic Analysts and Associates, Vermillion, USD professor emeritus and chief advisor to the Governor's Economic Advisory Council, offering an update of South Dakota and local economic projections, along with updates on financial, manufacturing and agriculture. Dr. Brown will also address the question "How dependent is South Dakota on the Federal Government?"
Dr. Michael Morrisey, Professor of Health Economics and Health Insurance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Director of the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy, Co-Director of the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness-Research and Education, and past Chief Economist for Healthcare, will address the economic impact of healthcare reform.
The luncheon speaker is Deb Bowman, Senior Advisor to Gov. Dennis Daugaard and former Secretary of the Department of Social Services under Gov. Mike Rounds. Bowman will discuss South Dakota's Medicaid Task Force.
The Economic Outlook Seminar is sponsored by Avera Health/Avera McKennan Hospital, Sanford Health, First PREMIER Bank, and Forward Sioux Falls.
