Better Health promoted at MD&M

The Sioux Falls Development Foundation partnered with the Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) to make a splash at the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) Expo in Minneapolis the last week of October. The show brings together top suppliers and resources to solve the toughest medical device design, engineering, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly and packaging challenges in the industry. Because this is a targeted industry, medical device and manufacturing companies have been on the radar screen within the Sioux Falls market for quite some time, said Dean Dziedzic, Sioux Falls Development Foundation Vice President, who represented the Development Foundation at the Expo. The number of bio-tech, medical research and medical manufacturing companies in Sioux Falls has increased significantly during the past decade. "This year's show was exceptionally productive for us," Dziedzic said. "We have been promoting Sioux Falls with the 'Better Business Better Life' brand for a few years. This year our theme promoted Better Health." As part of promoting the Better Health theme, the SFDF did turndown service at two hotels and gave away pedometers at the booth throughout the show. Attendees were challenged to take the most steps throughout the show, with the top five step-takers receiving a Fit Bit. The challenge was promoted throughout the expo via the SFDF Twitter handle, @DevelopSF. "We received a good number of leads from Minnesota, where our business climate is an easy sell. It is a lot more cost effective to do business in South Dakota," Dziedzic said. "We did not have any formal individual meetings set up prior to the show. However, we came away with 36 leads and contacts that we intend to follow-up with in the near future This was the seventh consecutive year the Sioux Falls Development Foundation partnered with GOED at MD&M. South Dakota's medical device manufacturing industry is growing, and will continue to grow in the coming years. Attending this show is a huge asset in promoting Sioux Falls to this industry."
